This brilliantly crafted dramatisation of the events of 1986, when No 4 nuclear reactor at Chernobyl suffered a catastrophic failure has been a very difficult but compulsive view.
Anyone who lived through the Cold War period with its ever-present threat of nuclear Armageddon and the grim prospect of the slow agony of radiation sickness and watching your loved ones die around you – if you were unlucky enough not to have the ‘good fortune’ of incineration in the initial blast – will relate to the horror of this tale.
Tonight, the series reaches its powerful conclusion, as Valery Legasov, Boris Shcherbina and Ulana Khomyuk risk their lives and reputations to
expose the truth about Chernobyl.
It is a sobering message in a time when experts are dismissed and we are told our energy needs take precedence over concerns.
Chernobyl – Tuesday at 9.00pm on Sky Atlantic and NowTV.
