Oooh, Joe Root, a lot can happen in five days. The new England captain went from hero to zero to hero in a super-eventful first Test, which England incredibly tried their utmost to toss off a seemingly insurmountable lead before Moeen inspired a collapse every bit as incompetent as our own, as he went through the South Africa line-up like a dose of salts.
The two teams pitch up at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, today for day one of the second Test. England have not lost a Test at Trent Bridge for 10 years and will be eager to get their seam attack of Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson and Mark Wood into the visitors early on.
South Africa are depleted by the loss of Kagiso Rabada, who serves a suspension for his misdeeds at Lord’s, and batsman JP Duminy. Have the Proteas regrouped or will we see a similarly tame performance from the tourists?
Cricket: England v South Africa 2nd Test – from Friday at 11.00am on Sky Sports, BBC Radio 5 and BBC Sport website.
