Last June, Ireland and Afghanistan became the most recent countries to become full ICC members, and become Test status nations. Today is Ireland’s first ever Test match.
Playing in Malahide near Dublin, William Porterfield is captaining the side’s test debut as they take on Pakistan, lead by their wicket keeper Sarfraz Ahmed. It will be interesting to see how the new boys perform – or at least partly see. Annoyingly Sky Sports are cutting short their footage of the match at 15.00 in order to cover an Indian Premier League. I know people like the IPL, but this is a major sporting first and it seems frustrating that the Irish aren’t getting top billing in the schedule.
Ireland v Pakistan is on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Cricket at 10.55.
