After this match, both of these sides will have past the half-way point in terms of the group game fixtures.

Today sees England, which many considered the favourites at the start of the tournament to win the World Cup, face Afghanistan, the lowest ranked side the competition, in a game at Old Trafford. On paper, it should be an easy England win. Victory of the home side should put them top of the table, with the same points as Australia, but England have a higher run-rate going into the game.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan are still looking for their first ever win against a top-ten side in the World Cup. Victory is not only a must, but it would also secure them a place in the history books.

England v Afghanistan is on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket at 10.00 (play starts 10.30).
