While Sir David Jason will always be famous for his comic rolls, here he presents a new documentary looking at the history of the British Secret Service.

He begins in 1909 when the service was founded, and he drives “the beast of Turin” – a Fiat S76 that was a passion to the BSS’s founder Sir Mansfield Smith-Cumming, the original “C”, and a man who once went spying on German war preparations, and got caught straight away because he didn’t speak any German.

Sir David then examines the part that ordinary civilians played in gathering information during World War One.

David Jason’s Secret Service is on More4 at 21.00.
