Preview – England’s Forgotten Queen: the Life and Death of Lady Jane Grey

Lady Jane Grey

The historian Helen Castor offers us a guide to the woman who was queen of England for only nine days.

The series follows her from when the Tudor boy king Edward VI, who was Protestant, cut out his Catholic sister Mary of the line of succession to make the Protestant Jane the new queen. The following episodes also broadcast this week deal with Mary’s response – to raise an army to fight back her way to the throne, and how Jane helped to inspire Elizabeth I.

England’s Forgotten Queen: the Life and Death of Lady Jane Grey is on BBC Four at 21.00 tonight, tomorrow and Thursday.
