Breathe easy fellow football fans; the English Premier League is finally back. After not such a long wait and a transfer window filled with extortionate amounts of spending and frankly absurd rumour mongering, we see the nation’s top tier recommence this weekend as Manchester City attempt to defend their title as champions of England.
Kicking it off yesterday night, we saw Manchester United host Leicester in a tie which they would go on to (…). Saturday’s premier league action starts with Tottenham getting the early kick-off as they are hosted by Newcastle at St James’ park. Mauricio Pochettinho’s side have been quiet thus far in the transfer market and will hope that they can improve on their 3rd place finish last season with the resources they already have at their disposal.
In the 3pm kick-offs we see Huddersfield take on Sarri’s Chelsea, while elsewhere newly-promoted Cardiff and Fulham – who have both made some fantastic signing in the transfer window – take on Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively. Watford begin their season at Vicarage Road against a much changed Brighton side who have complete a total of 30 transfers so far this summer. Rounding off the day’s action are new-boys Wolves who host a much improved Everton side in the 5:30pm kick-off.
On Sunday, we have 3 massive games as Southampton take on Burnley, hoping to finish further away from the relegation zone this season. The second 1:30pm kick-off follows Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as they host Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham. Finally to draw the first weekend back in the Premier League to a close, Arsenal are on call to host Manchester City in a game where anything could happen.
