An account of one of the most tragic days in mountaineering history, Everest carries all of the raw emotion, bravery in the face of adversity and thrilling tension that you’d expect from such a tribute. The film, starring a number of big names such as Josh Brollins, Jake Gyllenhall, Kiera Knightley and Jason Clarke, is lead by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur.
The film, based on “Left for Dead: My Journey Home from Everest” by survivor Beck Weathers, recounts the events of the failed May 1996 commercial Everest ascent – Jason Clarke takes the lead role of New-Zealand expedition leader, Rob Hall, while Jake Gyllenhall stars as his American rival Scott Fischer. As the group make their ascent a mixture of over-exertion, poor preparation and a treacherous blizzard put not only the expedition but the lives of its members in jeopardy, leading to one of greatest tragedies recorded in the sport.
Everest (2015) – Saturday 9:00pm on Channel 4.
