Preview – Father Brown

Emily Atack in Father Brown

I have to say I’m a bit perplexed by the scheduling of Father Brown, this has a prime-time Sunday evening slot written all over it – and yet here we are 1.45 on a Tuesday afternoon with Mark Williams as the titular Brown and an accomplished supporting cast including Sorcha Cusack, Jessica Turner and Emer Kenny. Either the Beeb have done their research and know when they can deploy the good Father to maximum effect or someone in the upper echelons of the corporation has no faith in the show.

Whatever, this is a well-produced series adaption of GK Chesterton’s novels and if you like nostalgia and crime dramas that unfold at a more sedate pace, you’ll enjoy being in the company of Father Brown.

Today, Mrs McCarthy’s goddaughter goes missing, and Father Brown follows her trail to a risqué gentlemen’s club. Ooh, I say!

Father Brown – Tuesday 1.45pm on BBC One.
