Comedian Frank Skinner travels across Britain and America tonight to get a more personal insight into his all-time hero.
Skinner delves into the life of Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Clay), starting in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, meeting Ali’s old neighbour, his brother and his wife to learn how Ali not only became perhaps “The Greatest” in all of sporting history, but also how he became a symbol in the fight against racial segregation and the Vietnam War.
Skinner also looks into Ali’s conversion to the Nation of Islam, visits Deer Lake, Pennsylvania where he trained for the Rumble in the Jungle, and also deals with other, lesser known aspect of his life, like the time Ali was in a little-known Broadway musical.
Frank Skinner on Muhammad Ali is on BBC One at 21.00.
