From Sally Wainwright, the creator of Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley, comes a new biopic, also set in the same Yorkshire town she found success with.
Gentleman Jack is the story of Anne Lister (Suranne Jones), a 19th century lesbian landowner. In 1832, having previously been travelling, she has decided to return home to transform the fortunes of her ancestral home, Shibden Hall, after her lover Vere Hobart (Jodhi May) accepts a marriage proposal from a man.
While she has problems with her love-life, her change to improve the estate comes from when she discovers her land is rich in coal.
Gentlemen Jack is on BBC One at 21.00.
