The life of the Manchester United and Northern Irish football hero George Best is one of greatness and tragedy.
In this feature-length documentary by Daniel Gordon (Hillsborough) that previously aired by the BBC in Northern Ireland in May, Gordon primarily deals with Best’s career after 1968, when Man U had won the European Cup and he himself was named both European and FWA Footballer of the Year. However Matt Busby then left Man U and he was frustrated by what the team had become without him. Plus he was also dealing with his life in the tabloids and his infamous alcoholism.
Among those featured include sports journalists and Best’s wives.
George Best: All by Himself is on BBC Two at 21.00.
