For the final episode of Great British Buildings: Restoration of the Year – in which Dr Anna Keay and Kevin McCloud have travelled the country presenting restoration projects nominated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – the pair focus on the most modern category, buildings constructed in the 20th century.
Anna sets out to the Dartmoor moors to marvel at the beautiful Castle Drogo – the last castle ever built in Britain – and to witness the restoration which has saved it’s historic structure.
Also tonight architectural historian Dr Jonathan Foyle heads to Birmingham and loses himself in the art deco glamour of the truly astonishing former Birmingham Central Fire Station. And finally, historic building surveyor Marianne Suhr uncovers how a much-loved building in Newcastle has been rescued from the brink and stands tall once again.
Kevin and Anna hear which building the RICS Judges have put through to the shortlist before the overall winner of Restoration of the Year is revealed.
