Kevin McCloud returns to our screens and together with Dr Anna Keay, the pair reveal the UK’s most incredible restorations of historic buildings.
From palaces to watermills, department stores to music halls, they find nine centuries of British history told through treasured places that have been lovingly restored.
The houses shown combine bold designs, great craftsmanship with a great deal of hard work and not to mention the enormous budgets reaching the millions.
All of the projects have been placed on the long-list by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) for their Restoration of the Year award.
This first episode features a watermill brought back to life in Cambridgeshire. There’s also a seaside villa in Lyme Regis; a superb Georgian innovation in Northumberland; and rescued castle in Ceredigion. Alongside Kevin and Anna, historic building surveyor Marianne Suhr and architectural historian Dr Jonathan Foyle uncover the stories behind each extraordinary project.
At the end of each episode Kevin and Anna hear which building the Rics judges have shortlisted for the ultimate Restoration of the Year.
