The BBC’s long-running satirical panel show enters its 54th series tonight.
There is certainly no shortage of things for Ian Hislop and Paul Merton to talk about in the current political climate (we can guess a certain speech will be mentioned), but there are plenty of people out there who think HIGNFY has run its course. Currently RT (formerly Russia Today) are developing their own new satirical comedy called The Establishment Club to combat what they see as the BBC’s too safe and too predictable satire, and while RT has produced the likes of Jonathan Pie over the years, you do wonder how independent a comedy on a TV channel owned by the Kremlin is.
But moving back to tonight, Alexander Armstrong hosts, he being the most regular guest host the series has ever had. Also joining are comic Roisin Conaty and LBC radio presenter James O’Brien.
Have I Got News for You is on BBC One at 21.00.
