From writer Jack Thorne and director Marc Munden, both BAFTA winners, and starring acclaimed actors Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham, Help is the story of a fictional Liverpool care home as it braces for the catastrophe that is COVID-19.

It explores the relationship between a young care worker and a patient. Sarah (Comer) is smart, but an outsider in both her education and work, told she would not amount to anything, she suddenly finds her calling as a carer in Sunshine Homes.

The 47-year old Ton (Graham) becomes good friends with Sarah, and his early-onset Alzheimer’s has left him dependent on others. When March 2020 hits, everything Sarah has succeeded at with Tony is thrown into relief.

Poorly-equipped and desperately misdirected, the care workers fight tooth and nail to return to the already-challenging world of care as it was before the pandemic, but there looks to be no way out.

Help – Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4
