Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the duo behind classic sitcoms Porridge and The Likely Lads, are back with a new three-part series on Gold.
The sitcom is about a man who is going through a mid-life crisis – who also happens to be king of the United Kingdom. The titular monarch, played by Charles Edwards, believes that with the way the world is changing it would be better for him to abdicate and let his son Prince Alastair (Daniel Quirke) be king.
However, problems hinder him at every turn. His wife Queen Katerina (Sally Phillips) is not keen on Henry resigning; Henry has a blossoming relationship with the palace florist Serena (Kara Tointon); and Alastair is gay and wants to marry is Australian partner Quinton (Kirk Barker) in Westminster Abbey before becoming king.
Henry IX is on Gold at 21.00.
