The public’s attitude to science seems odd at times. A lot of people may be indifferent to funding cuts, but get furious when people refuse to name a research ship “Boaty McBoatface”.
Another thing that has made people angry is the Natural History Museum’s decision to replace its long standing dinosaur display, Dippy the Diplodocus, with one of a blue whale. Dippy is now touring the country.
In this episode of Horizon narrated by David Attenborough, we follow the two-year-long process of properly displaying the new whale skeleton, while also trying to remove Dippy, who has been standing on display for 38 years.
Horizon: Dippy and the Whale is on BBC Two at 21.00.
