Given that you are now on the internet, you will know what a meme is.
Richard Clay, an art historian and Professor of Digital Cultures at Newcastle University, we looks at how memes have evolve, with only a few managing to spread across the web while most are quietly forgotten.
As well as recreating several memes, Prof. Clay interviews several people involved in making them. These include Richard Dawkins, the scientist who coined the term in the first place; Amanda Brennan, who works as a meme “librarian”, and Christopher Blair, a creator of fake news who calls himself a “liberal troll”.
How to Go Viral is on BBC Four at 21.00.
