With Christmas and New Year finished now a distant memory, the 2017 resolutions begin and at the top of the list – lose weight. A resolution that sees half the population groan is disgust while the other half, wake up ready with trainers in their bag and a smoothie on the go – well for now anyway.
Alongside exercise, the most important way to shed the pounds is a change in diet but as we all know, this is easier said than done… However, on hand to make it that little bit easier is Dr Xand Van Tulleken and dietician Hala El-Shafie, with series two of How to Lose Weight Well.
Taking the test to the general public, they ask ordinary Brits to trial the most popular and trending diets on the market to see if they do indeed have an impact and which are the most effective, while Xand tackles the science behind healthier eating – can extreme temperatures really affect weight loss?
In this episode, we meet Emile and Harriet who – with a photo shoot in two weeks – want to slim down before stepping into the lights, cousins Natasha and Chiquita who face a six-week diet ahead of Natasha’s wedding and Gary and Wayne who want to slim down before a darts competition in just four months.
How to Lose Weight Well, Tuesdays, Channel 4 – 8.00pm
