If you are expecting to see Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to cook in this nature documentary you may be disappointed – and some might be disappointed that this show isn’t set in Texas or somewhere similar.

Hugh is actually looking into the wildlife of the West Country, and talks to some dedicated nature lovers in the area. In this opening episode he looks at the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, which features among other creatures the dipper, the UK’s only aquatic songbird.

Hugh’s Wild West is on BBC Two at 18.15.
