While he is best known for drama, Idris Elba has now turned to comedy, with a show partly based on his own life.
Set in 1980s Hackney, Elba plays factory worker Walter Easmon, who 13 years earlier had emigrated to Britain from Sierra Leone, along with his wife Agnes (Madeline Appiah) and son Kobna (Sammy Kamara). However, things are turned on their head when Walter’s brother Valentine (Jimmy Akingbola) comes to stay.
Bill Bailey also stars alongside Elba, playing Walter’s best friend and work colleague Bagpipes – who despite the nickname is English. His real name is Terry De La Croix.
In the Long Run begins with a double-bill on Sky One at 22.00.
