In this new medical documentary series, surgeon Gabriel Weston looks at some rare cases that are helping experts to unearth new medical advances.
Among the cases that are investigated in this episode include that of a seven-year-old Russian who was born with her heart outside her ribcage; a woman who is growing a second skeleton; a man capable of holding his breath underwater for nine minutes; and a paralysed man who has undergone brain surgery to regain movement thanks to a microchip planted into his brain.
Given that this is on the BBC at least we can hope to see this dealt with in a professional manner. You get the feeling that if these cases were on Channel 5 the programme would be called something like “The Girl with the Bloody Lump” or something equally undignified.
Incredible Medicine: Dr Weston’s Casebook is on BBC Two at 21.00.
