Tonight the firefighters are called to a blaze at a garden centre near Heathrow and the situation takes a dangerous turn when it’s discovered there are highly explosive gas canisters on site.
Taking a cooler tone, the London Brigade are next called to tackle a massive flood in Stoke Newington and in Shoreditch we meet Commander Steve who joined the brigade in 1987. Steve is called to a road traffic accident where a woman is trapped with suspected spinal injuries. She needs to be cut free from the car but the firefighters can’t do anything until the ambulance arrives.
Proving just how stretched the emergency services are, the ambulance takes nearly four hours to arrive – the longest delay in Steve’s 30-year career.
