Inside Russia - Putin's War at Home

This documentary, filmed in secrecy, tells the inside story of defiant Russians who refuse to stay silent in the wake of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Part of ITV’s Bafta-winning Exposure strand, Inside Russia: Putin’s War At Home, follows those who are risking their freedom to reveal what is happening inside Russia, as the war continues to intensify. Their experiences chart Russia’s journey into full authoritarianism.

Produced and directed by Bafta award winner, Gesbeen Mohammad, this incredibly powerful film captures the torment taking place in Russia, speaking candidly to those directly impacted by the conflict.

Vasiliy is a Russian journalist and filmmaker. For the last five months, he has been risking his freedom working for ITV to make this documentary. Vasiliy said: “All the laws are really vague in Russia. To me operating in this kind of environment is very difficult. You start getting a little bit paranoid. It’s uncomfortable in an emotional way.”

Inside Russia: Putin’s War At Home follows activists, a filmmaker, an academic, and a social media influencer with a growing following – as well as two regional journalists defying Putin’s orders to investigate the true figure of Russian casualties in their region.

Inside Putin’s War at Home – Thursday at 10.45pm on ITV.
