International Football: England v USA - Wembley

If you’re seeking an antidote to the turgid Southgateball served up by the men’s England team, then this is the game for you.

Football with a plan. Players playing without histrionics. And a fanbase that doesn’t demean itself with abusive xenophobic chants about the opposition players and fans. Watching England during the summer was a breath of fresh air and a brilliant advert for the women’s game in this country.

Tonight, the reigning European Champions, England, take on the current World Champions, the USA, at a sold out Wembley stadium. It will be a homecoming for the Lionesses who last played there when they beat Germany 2-1 in the European Championship final back in July. This will be one of the biggest tests for Sarina Wiegman’s side as they start to look ahead to the World Cup next summer.

Laura Woods presents live coverage alongside Ian Wright, Karen Carney and Eni Aluko.

International Football: England v USA – Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
