Ireland with Ardal O'Hanlon

We British have always had our stereotypes of the Irish, whether it concerns stupidity or drinking. Perhaps that’s why when making Father Ted the writers tried to take this to extreme: Father Dougal was not just stupid, he was someone who cause explosions at a funeral, while Father Jack was someone who would happily drink Toilet Duck.

Maybe it is these reasons that have inspire the man who played Dougal, stand-up Ardal O’Hanlon, to present this new documentary about Ireland, with the first episode looking at the stereotypes surrounding the country, as well as the topic of religion.

Among the things O’Hanlon looks at include a matchmaker in County Clare claiming to possess a book of magical powers, and a woman who claims a relic saved her life.

Ireland with Ardal O’Hanlon is on More4 at 21.00.
