Before the calling of the snap General Election earlier this year, just about all the predictions were that Theresa May would win comfortably and that Jeremy Corbyn would be out.

Instead, May lost her overall majority, and Corbyn managed to virtually secure his position as Labour leader, to the astonishment to many in the party. This documentary by David Modell follows four Labour MPs over six months before and after the election: Lucy Powell, who resigned from Corbyn’s shadow cabinet; Stephen Kinnock, who has rebelled against Corbyn several times; Ruth Cadbury, who was sacked for voting against the whip; and Sarah Champion, who resigned after writing a controversial opinion piece about rape and race.

Labour: the Summer That Changed Everything is on BBC Two at 21.00.
