Fireworks for a Tudor Queen
Zoe Laughlin and Lucy Worsley.

The use of fireworks to entertain royalty in Britain can be dated back to Elizabeth I, when a display was organised by Robert Dudley in 1575.

Historian Lucy Worsley (complete with period costume) is joined by scientist Zoe Laughlin as they try to recreate this event, which is both entertaining and highly dangerous. Among the creations include an early form of Catherine wheel.

Lucy Worsley’s Fireworks for a Tudor Queen is on BBC Four at 21.00.
