In November 2016, an auction was held in Los Angeles selling items belonging to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.
While the star lot was the dress Monroe wore when she sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to JFK, which sold for $4.81 million, this documentary looks more at the smaller items that were up for sale and that provide a more in-depth look at her life.
Among the items that are featured include notes scribbled on menus, poems to her last husband Arthur Miller, and bottles of tablets – that are somewhat disturbing given that Monroe died of a drug overdose. The documentary mixes footage from the auction with interviews from people who knew the star.
Marilyn Monroe: Auction of a Lifetime is on Channel 4 at 21.00.
