The end is in sight for the MasterChef contestants, 12 gruelling weeks of competition come down to the execution of three faultless courses. No pressure, then!
Last night’s challenge saw the three remaining chefs thrust into the detail-driven intensity of service at Esben Holmboe Bang’s three Michelin star restaurant, Maaemo, in Oslo – and each held their own using unfamiliar ingredients and techniques.
Now back in the MasterChef kitchen, they will cook one final time for the right to be crowned this season’s champion (With all the spin offs and professional opportunities that come with it.), it is a great credit to the quality shown by the remaining contestants, none of whom is a head chef; Gary is a lecturer at a catering college, Ellie is a sous chef, and Matt who prior to the competition had not worked a service for four years. And yet, they have seen off apparently senior competition with their consistently excellent dishes and ability to bring their own personality through on the plate.
This promises to be a tough night for the chefs and an equally tough on for viewers who haven’t had dinner before the show starts.
