After hundreds of hopeful auditions, the best 64 amateur cooks have been selected, and will return to the MasterChef kitchen for series thirteen. With a head full of imagination and innovation they will battle for their place in the kitchen during 4 weeks of heats.
Tonight the first of eight aspiring chefs try to prove their potential to judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace and will be the first to try out the new MasterChef market.
With an hour and twenty minutes the contestants must invent and cook one dish from the market’s produces – incredients that include pork mince, chicken breast and pancetta as well as halibut and mussels – before three hopefuls will be sent home.
For the remaining five, the competition heats up as they battle for a place in the quarter-finals. They must now cook two courses that will not only blow away John and Gregg, but also some of MasterChef’s most inspiring winners and finalists that return to taste the dishes.
Tonight Billy Wright, Jack Layer and champion Jane Devonshire, return to help John and Gregg with their decision.
