This documentary series was made back in 2009, but it is still one of my favourites, covering just about everything about Monty Python (at the time – this was still before their final shows at the O2 Arena).

Interviewing the five surviving members, we get an in-depth guide to the whole history of the troupe. In the episode repeated tonight on Sky Arts, it covers the first adventures into film with And Now for Something Completely Different, and then the making of their classic Arthurian comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The programme features the difficulties of making the film, such as having two directors making it (Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam) and the impact of Graham Chapman’s alcoholism at the time of filming, as well as possibly the greatest combination in all pop culture – thanks to the fact that Monty Python and the Holy Grail was Elvis Presley’s favourite movie.

Monty Python: Almost the Truth (Lawyer’s Cut) is on Sky Arts at 21.00.
