Alice Morrison continues on her treacherous journey from Morocco to Timbuktu. Tonight she tackles the Sahara desert trekking over the dunes on a camel, whilst learning about the shocking conditions of modern day slavery from her guide.
Unperturbed by a closed border between Algeria and Morocco, she heads west on another trading route to Guelmim before flying across Africa to Bamako, the capital of Mali. Home to the gold mines that provide Timbuktu with its wealth, Alice gets stuck in trying to unearth a gold nugget for herself.
With the ancient city having been turned into one of the most dangerous places in the world, the final Leg of her journey proves the most challenging – resulting in some desperate pleading to cross the border into City of Gold.
