Normally it is the things in museums rather than the buildings themselves that win prizes, but there is an award for the Museum of the Year.

Last year it went to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (pictured), and coverage of this year’s prize is being presented by the V&A’s director, ex-Labour MP Tristram Hunt.

The nominations for the award this time around are the Hepworth Museum in Wakefield, the Tate Modern, the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art in Newmarket, and the Lapworth Museum of Geology in Birmingham.

Museum of the Year is on BBC Two at 21.30.
