Channel 5 has always been a bit out there with its programming. Once the home of soft porn shows masquerading as documentary/reality TV, such as G-String Divas, 5 is now your essential destination for the type of output that is the staple of The Jeremy Kyle Show: picking through the ego and car crash relationships of Britons who’ll do just about anything to get their faces plastered on TV.
In this new series, we get to meet relatively well-adjusted young people who find themselves in competition with their deluded, utterly self-obsessed parents and grandparents. We meet a beauty obsessed mother and her twin daughters who has convinced herself that they are the UK equivalent of the Kardashians. You’ll only need to see a couple of seconds of the show and you’ll be able to make your own mind up on that claim. Then there is Amanda, 55, a glam-fixated grandmother who has attached herself to the eldest of her five grandchildren, Emma, so she can go out partying.
Amanda, from Bristol, believe she looks better than Emma and proud to be referred to as a GILF. Such high self-esteem!
My Mum’s Hotter Than Me – Monday 10.00pm on 5.
