This Channel 4 documentary looks at the attempts by the police to try and piece together the identity of a body with no clue to the person’s identity.
In December 2015, a tall man with grey hair and clothing inappropriate for the time purchases a return train ticket from London to Manchester. The next day, he was found dead in Saddleworth Moor, near Oldham. He was killed by strychnine poisoning, had no phone, no wallet and no driving licence. Despite numerous appeals, no-one was able to provide them with any information to the man’s identity, who Greater Manchester Police referred to as “Neil Dovestone”, after the exact spot where the man was found.
The programme follows the police’s efforts to try and find the man’s true identity over the course of a year.
Mystery of the Man on the Moor is on Channel 4 at 22.00.
