Paul Abbott’s award-winning drama continues to cut through the norms of what is expected from the crime genre. It is a show that can at a stroke break from serious storytelling to the blackest of visual jokes and the coarsest of dialogue. It does take a while to recalibrate your brain to tune into Abbott’s non-comformist but brilliant plot lines, and for the patient, it is well worth it.
No Offence is chock full of strong in-your-face female characters, none more so than investigative lead DI Viv Deering (Joanna Scanlan) who has also earned many of the show’s best lines “That’ll be faith in my own judgment running down my legs” being one such example.
Tonight, the team keep up their pursuit of Ma Attah and her clan of miscreants and uncover a trail leading back to the nick and one of the Friday Street team.
No Offence – Wednesday at 9.00pm on Channel 4.
