Parenting for Idiots fits into the mould of shows like Very British Problems and Grumpy Old… of celebrities bemoaning the difficulties of modern life.
In this programme, it is the issue of raising children that’s the focus. This opening episode, on the theme of “Chaos”, sees a range of anecdotes including Frankie Boyle on how his kids embarrass him; Grace Dent on the problems of friends who have babies; and Sally Philips on the troubles caused by nits.
Later episodes also feature Danny Dyer on the difficulties on making a doll’s house, Lauren Laverne complaining about fussy eaters, and the late Carrie Fisher attacking unrealistic TV families. Other famous faces include Stephen Mangan and Andrew Flintoff, while also featuring some “non-parents” such as Jamie Laing and Janet Street-Porter looking after kids for the first time.
Parenting for Idiots is on Channel 4 at 22.00.
