Tonight sees a play performed live about recent protest movements, by and starring former Channel 4 and Newsnight reporter Paul Mason.

The left-wing reporter, alongside Khaid Abdalla, Sirine Saba and Lara Sawalha at the Young Vic theatre, perform a show about protests including the Arab Spring, the Occupy Movement, the Greek financial crisis, and protests against the election of the current US president, asking, “How did we get from a mass outbreak og global protest and hope and optimism to Donald Trump?”

It feels odd that a journalist should turn to drama, but it is worth seeing how someone who witnessed these protests has managed to adapt these events for the stage.

Performance Live: Why It’s Kicking Off Everywhere is on BBC Two at 22.00.
