In amongst the clamour and media coverage of the Six Nations this week, the Premier league’s various title-fights and relegation battles rage on with plenty more twists and turns to be expected.
The first matches of the weekend took place last night and saw London clubs Fulham and West Ham do battle while a triumphant Watford romped to a 5-1 victory over their hosts Cardiff City.
Saturday’s action sees third-place Tottenham travel north in the early kick-off as they look for an opportunity to make ground on joint-leaders Manchester City and Liverpool. Spurs face a stern test however as they take on a resurgent Burnley side who have enjoyed a change in fortunes since the turn of the new year.
In the 3 o’clock games, mid-table high-fliers Wolves and Bournemouth clash as they launch their respective challenges for the final European qualification spots. Elsewhere, down the other end of the table, a struggling Huddersfield arrive on Tyneside as they tackle Newcastle United who will have been encouraged by recent performances. Later in the evening, Leicester City host Crystal Palace.
Arsenal kick Sunday’s action off as they host Southampton off the back of their qualification for the round of 16 in the Europa League last week. Finally, its crunch time in the north-west as Liverpool tackle bitter-rivals Manchester United with the Red Devils presented with the opportunity to seriously hamper the Merseysiders’ title aspirations.
