Last season’s two top teams get the opportunity to put down a mark as to their ambitions for 2017/18. For Tottenham, this is a housewarming they could do without as they try to settle themselves into the new surroundings of temporary home Wembley. Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t strengthened significantly over the summer and has lost fullback Kyle Walker to Manchester City but the verve his side showed in beating Newcastle last weekend suggests they will fancy damaging the champions today.
Chelsea, on the other hand, were left with egg on their faces after not giving Burnley the respect they deserved as they slipped to an unexpected loss at the Bridge.
Wembley is a big old space and Chelsea are the more effective passing team. If they can keep their composure and avoid Pochettino’s high press (and not have two players sent off as they did last week ), it could be the Blues rather than the Tottenham fans who are smiling at full time.
Premier League football: Spurs v Chelsea – Sunday at 3.30pm on Sky Sports Premier League.
