Don’t be fooled by the subtitle – this isn’t a tribute to The Prisoner. It’s actually an archaeological programme looking at the history of certain British villages.
Host Ben Robinson begins by examining the history of Warkworth, Northumberland, where he finds clues to the village’s origins dating back to the Normans and pieces together how the village came to look like it is now.
A second episode is on tomorrow, looking at Lavenham, Suffolk.
Pubs, Ponds and Power: the Story of the Village is on BBC Four at 19.30 tonight and tomorrow.
