Preview – Putin: The New Tsar

How did a poor boy from a tiny flat in St Petersburg become one of the world’s most powerful leaders?

Putin: The New Tsar looks into the story of the young KGB colonel who became the right hand man of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin and eventually eclipsed him into becoming the man we know today as Vladimir Putin. The programme explores the tremendous rise of Russia’s current President through those who are or have been closest to him, from his former confident in the Kremlin Sergei Pugachev to international chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, former foreign secretary William Hague to the UK’s former home secretary Jack Straw.
