Callum Turner stars in John Boorman’s sequel to his semi-autobiographical Oscar-nominated drama Hope and Glory (1987), which followed the lives of nine-year-old Bill Rohan and his family through the turbulence of the London blitz.
Time has moved on: it’s the early 1950s and Bill (Turner) is now 18, which means he must report for his two-year stint of National Service.
While the majority of men called up at the same time as Bill are sent off to fight in the Korean War, he and Percy Hapgood (Caleb Landry Jones) are kept back, made sergeants and assigned to teach typing at their British training base.
Also starring Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Tamsin Egerton, Vanessa Kirby and Pat Shortt.
Queen and Country – Friday at 1.20am on Channel 4.
