It was fifty years ago… last Thursday actually, when the Beatles released arguably the greatest pop album in history.
Howard Goodall, a man who has composed all kinds of music from choral works to the themes for Blackadder, Red Dwarf and QI, looks into the making of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, including outtakes and conversations between the band that have never been heard outside of Abbey Road before.
Goodall looks at how the album came about, shortly after the Beatles decided to stop doing live shows altogether, and examines how some of the music in it has some surprisingly old connections – 1,000 year old connections to be exact.
Sgt. Pepper’s Musical Revolution with Howard Goodall is on BBC Two at 21.00.
