Silent Witness, the forensic crime drama, presents another two-part story in its 20th season on the BBC.
So what’s going on that can’t be handled concisely within an hour-long slot? Well, it’s a sunny May bank holiday and the newspapers are abuzz with the news of the disappearance of a young schoolteacher.
Investigating officer DCI Andy Steemson asks Nikki (Emilia Fox) and Jack (David Caves) to examine the small blood traces, bike tracks and a charred cake in the oven in the house. Either the teacher is clumsy, forgetful and a very poor cook or this was no planned disappearance.
Meanwhile, Thomas (Richard Lintern) is called to the site of the murder of a former drug addict – who has been thrown from the top of a flyover – and is riled by the investigating officer’s dismissive attitude, he determines to win justice for the victim.
However, when a body is found in a pond off the M25, Nikki and Jack make the discovery that the deaths are linked. But what is the link between these two disparate cases?
