Twilight’s brooding vampire bride, Kristen Steward, and Marvel’s god of thunder, Chris Hemsworth, meet in this 2012 reimagining of the classic snow white fairytale. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film casts Charlize Theron as the villainous wanna-be immortal Queen Ravenna, Sam Claflin as Prince William and a host of other big names in smaller roles such as Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan and Toby Jones.
The film explains that the tyrannical Queen Ravenna drains the essence of the pure and beautiful to keep retain her youthfulness but aspires to go one step further by becoming immortal. In order to achieve this, she must eat the heart of her step-daughter Snow White who in turn flees the castle and escapes her step-mother’s clutches.
In keeping with the fairytale the queen hires a huntsman to track her down and return her heart however in a dramatic turn of events the two – Snow White and her new ally, Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman – end up stumbling across a rebellion and become the spearheads of an uprising against the evil queen. The film pays homage to the classic tale with Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Ray Winston all featuring amongst a band of dwarves who in turn develop a close bond with the young princess. As the two armies – of good and of evil – advance to meet each other the fate of the whole kingdom hangs in the balance.
