Last week’s introduction to the would-be spooks was like a really poor game of hide and seek, as they attempted to navigate the Intelligence Officer New Entry Course; an intense, unsettling psychological experiment run by people who’ve been through the real thing. It wasn’t a huge surprise the many of the 15 participants made mistakes a child would be hard-pressed to make.
This episode explores the moral ambiguity of espionage work. The ex-spies running the course have started directing some trainees to work against their colleagues as informers – relationships are exploited and friendships betrayed. Who will earn the right to remain on the course, as the informers are dramatically exposed and the group descends into paranoia?
