BBC3 throws up some good programming that often flies beneath the radar – and has to rely on social buzz before getting airtime on one of the corporation’s main channels. Tonight, Stacey Dooley heads to Northern Ireland to find out how the DUP saved Theresa May’s skin at the last general election (at a cost of £1billion) and digs into the unsettling beliefs and policies of the ultra conservative group.
She meets people who voted for a party that is both anti-Gay marriage and anti-abortion even when some don’t agree, and discovers that the place is still bitterly divided years after The Troubles. Her investigation plunges her into the bitter politics of Northern Ireland where British and Irish identities coexist with unease.
Stacey Dooley Investigates: The Billion Pound Party – Monday from 10.00am on BBC3.
